#9 & #13 Greens Are Open For Play

We have been topdressing, rolling, and providing lots of tender loving care to prepare the new greens for their unveiling.  The new greens are now being cut at the same height as the rest of the greens and are putting quite nicely.  They are not perfect yet but they continue to improve daily.  The new greens have a wide variety of very challenging to easy pin placement locations providing great fun for all skill levels.

Greens Aerification

We aerified the greens with 10" x 1/2" tines on Monday then topdressed with sand and brushed the sand into the holes. We hand watered all the greens and topdressed and brushed them again Wednesday. On Thursday it was difficult to find the holes made by the tines.

New Oaks

We have planted 6 beautiful new oak trees this week to replace some of the weak softwood trees that were removed over the winter.  The new trees average 5" DBH (Diameter at Breast Height) which is an ideal size for successful transplanting.

Soding and Seeding

We prepared the areas that will require new sod earlier this spring and we are now laying the new sod in those prepared areas. We are also drilling new seed into areas where the turf is thinly populated. We are doing everything we can do on our end, we just need a little help from Mother Nature.  Lets all hope for some sunny days and warmer temperatures.

Stay Positive

The weather is certainly not cooperating with us as we are trying to get the course back in shape after its winters nap.  We are about 2 weeks behind a "normal" year and 4 weeks behind last years early start.  The turf has been slow to green up and start growing with the colder temperatures, but we are pushing on and mowing in-between the rain and snow.

# 4 Green

The new putting green on #4 is now open for play.  Although, we ask that you do not play from the approach because the new seedlings are still tender.  We have the old #4 green area under a turf cover to speed up its growth rate so it will reach maturity as quickly as possible. The cover acts somewhat similar to a greenhouse by increasing the soil temperatures as well as preventing erosion from heavy rainfall.  In reference to this picture the area shaded in red will be played as ground under repair.  (Rule 25-1-b[i]) You may pick up your ball and drop it without penalty within one club-length of and not nearer the hole than the nearest point of relief.
